SERMON OUTLINE # 3 - "Spiritual Obedience"

"Spiritual Obedience"

Text: Eph. 6:1-9

"Children obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right." This verse in Ephesians 6 is used to remind children to obey their parents and do what they command. Obedience is one way of showing honor to one's parents in the flesh. But what about in our spiritual aspect? Are we obedient to God? Do we honor Him?

Spiritual obedience means...

I. Doing God's commandment (v. 1)
       1. Read His word - Jos. 1:8; Ps. 1:2; 119:5; 1 Tim. 4:14-16
       2. Pray always - Ps. 55:16, 17; Lk. 18:1; Eph. 6:18; 1 Thes. 5:17; Jas. 5:16
       3. Preach the gospel - Mat. 4:23; Mk. 16:15; 2 Tim. 4:2
       4. Continue in the service - Act. 2:43-47; 1 Cor. 1:9; 2 Tim. 3:14

II. Honoring God as Lord and Savior (v. 2,3)
       1. Worship God alone - Ex. 34:14; 1 Chr. 16:29; Ps. 95:6, 7; 99:5; Rev. 14:6, 7
       2. Give God the glory due to Him - 2 Sam. 22:4; Ps. 66:1, 2; 89:5; 119:164; Eph. 1:6-12

III. Serving God faithfully (v. 5-7)
       1. Fear God - v. 5; Ps. 2:11
       2. Serve no man - v. 6, 7; Col. 3:22, 23

To be spiritually obedient, a Christian is ought to do God's commandment, honor Him as Lord and Savior, and serve Him faithfully. God will give a reward to His obedient children (v. 8, Col. 3:24) so as with the disobedient ones (v. 9; Col. 3:25). As a dear child of God, are you obedient to Him or not? Do you honor Him and do His will accordingly? Ask yourself!
